Todays preachers, pastors, televangelists, and Bible teachers exhibit 7 strange behaviors that dont seem to be in keeping with what Jesus and the early apostles did. Not every preacher does every behavior, and some behaviors may seem insignificant to some people. But the fact that certain actions and statements are prevalent is worth questioning. The 7 odd behaviors well consider in this lesson are: (1) Preaching in angry tone, shouting, and screaming. (2) Acting like CEO of their church, doing all the sermons, and leading all the programs. Plus, considering "church" as the buildings of denominations, rather than "where two or three are gathered together in My name" as Jesus said. (3) Repeating statements without checking their Biblical accuracy (like "Jesus spoke of hell more often than of heaven"). (4) Repeating phrases habitually: "Amen?", "Turn to your name and tell them....", "Hallelujah", "praise God", "Can I get an Amen?", "Man, this is some good preaching right here." (5) Emphasizing doctrine over action, creeds over deeds, belief systems over lifestyles, mental assent over practical application. (6) Support all wars and pray for the troops, but never question if a war is "just" and never pray for peace, righeousness of troop actioins, or protection of innocent civilians. Christian Pacifism is practically non-existent. (7) Preach lectures, never Q & A (question and answer) or discussions, never allowing others to share what they are learning in their devotions and Bible reading, enforcing a "shut up and soak up" mentality of passive congregations being spoon fed doctrine.
