Sermon 154 "God is Happy Even if Theologians are Gloomy" - Dec 05,2012

A New York Times Book Review article by Leszek Kolakowski states that its impossible for God to be happy, because He is Spirit. Theologicans have historically "reverenced" God out of human experience, theorizing that the Supreme Being, whom Jesus spoke of tenderly as Father, is a numb lump of Divine Energy, a Vague Faceless Deity, with no personality or feelings. The Bible is loaded with references to "the joy of the Lord", "rejoice in the Lord", "the pleasure of His will", and "that My joy might remain in you". Only the dry and dusty old tomes of morose scholastic theologians claim that God is so "exalted", He cannot have any feelings. They have abstractly "reverenced" God right out of human experience, setting Him on some distant, remote level that He is insensate, completely without empathy, "un-knowable", residing in an aloof ivory tower of cosmic elitism. The Bible states that God has a wide range of emotions, from anger at the oppression of the poor, and sorrow at the unbelief of lost souls, to delight in those who trust Him. Praise God!
