On this special broadcast Ive invited a panel of survivors from the Magdalene Laundries all girls Catholic School and one from the Good Shepard Shool for Girls. Along with the survivors is a Washington Times Columnist, Jerome Elam who has written three articles on this particular case and has worked with these survivors personally throughout. Many times we have heard tale of the Irish Catholic imprisonment, slavery, beatings and abuse of young children. This is just but one of those cases coming to surface in light of all the momentum around child abuse lately. These women and Mr. Elam are going to share some of their nightmares, which even Sinaed OConnor has come forward to reveal. One article released in Sun Times, a child at the age of two was taken to the laundries, by age 5 she was preparing breakfast for 70 others. Although institutionalized her entire life with no contact in the outside world, she gave birth three times only to have the children taken from her within weeks and to meet them as adults without knowledge of ever having given birth. This is just one of the horrifying stories as we look into how the Catholic Church and the Irish Government both played a huge role in child slavery and forced labor. We will discuss the history connected with our panel and the Magdalene Sisters as we broadcast this show in honor of all the lives lost, either by institution or death, while children became nothing more than free labor for the Irish government and Catholic Church who were in charge of the childrens care.
