This week, the Scottscope roundtable suits up to discuss the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Iron Man 3! Is it better than Iron Man 2? Does it get the franchise back on track? Is the character of Tony Stark still interesting? Has he truly evolved over the course of four films? Has Robert Downey Junior's enthusiasm for the role diminished since the first film? Has his shtick grown tired? Is Shane Black a suitable replacement for Jon Favreau? Is Shane Black's particular skillset a good fit for a modern superhero film? If so, should Shane Black return, or should the reigns be handed over to someone else? We'll also be discussing the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Has it truly grown over the last five years? What have been the best films so far? Is it a good idea to have so many different characters from so many different films coexist in the same macrocosm? Has an “assembly line” mentality become evident over the course of eight movies? Are these films too similar to one another? Is it possible to make this world more varied while still maintaining a cohesive vision? Would the Spider-Man and X-Men franchises truly be better off in the hands of their parent company?
